What do career coaches do?

Have you ever been at a career crossroads, not sure which direction to turn next? Most of us have stood at that crossroads at least once, probably multiple times in our lifetime. You may have come to a crossroads when considering a career transition. Or perhaps you are trying to figure out how to make the changes in your business that you believe will bring you increased fulfillment. Or you just aren't sure how to dust off that long-held dream of yours and bring it to life.

Every day, in situations like these, career coaches help clients take action steps to bring them from where they are now to where they want to be in their work-life. Through an interactive process of exploring work-related issues, career coaches work as a facilitator and catalyst for people wishing to enhance their job satisfaction through discovering their ideal work, career transition or improving life/work balance. For this career coach, I've found that helping people find what brings them joy, is the best service I can provide and the best gift I can give.

Career coaches can do everything from helping people clarify their career direction or get through a crossroads or transition, to designing resumes, preparing a client for interviews, helping them overcome obstacles to their new job, and the list goes on. With the help of the coach, the client determines their goals. And just like an athletic coach, a career coach can help guide a client through the action steps that will lead to the next level.

It was a career crossroads that lead me to becoming a career coach. Unfortunately, I didn’t know about career coaching when I started through that time of transition. Like so many others, I would have benefited from the support of a coach when I really didn’t know what was next for me. But now that I’m here, I love being able to spend my days providing the support that helps others discover, create and get more from the work they love.
